What is your background
I’ve always created art, but truly became aware and discovered myself as an artist as I was creating art in college. Even before this awakening I was creating and it was a part of who I was, I just didn’t have a “title” for it.
I live in Southern California and my location plays a substantial role in my art. My art speaks of opening up oneself to the beauty that surrounds us no matter where we are. There’s always beauty to behold, in every environment, if you slow down and look for it. I think that my work provides a reprieve from today’s political and social climate. We all need to shut out the noise sometimes in order to maintain our own peace and to refresh our soul.
What does your work aim to say?
“My art is an expression of emotions and feelings at particular moments in my life, and not even necessarily about the subject itself but rather the mood and beauty I'm experiencing through the subject. It doesn’t matter which media I use as long as something is said in the finished piece. You'll find a lot of my culture and beliefs in my work and who I am is left on every piece. And as with every living thing our Creator has made, there is always continuous growth and change.....you will see mine happening through my art.”
How does your work comment on current social and political influences?
My work speaks of finding the quiet spaces away from the crowd in order to tune inward, strengthen ourselves, and listen to our own true voice. With all the social and political noise it's important to shut out all the chatter and open our hearts to hear what we have to say in order to contribute and be a strong, sound, voice out in the world.
"I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way... things I had no words for."
